Terry Dicken Business Park Feature Friday

Feature Friday: Richardson Podiatry

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have been trained to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections.

What’s the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist I hear you say. Actually nothing! In 1995 the two terms & the qualifications needed to be legally recognised as neither were aligned. By complete coincidence, this was the year that Lucy of Richardson Podiatry completed her very impressive BSc Hons degree in Podiatric Medicine from the Durham School of Podiatric Medicine.

Lucy always wanted to work in the medical profession and after spending a weekend working with her Podiatrist cousin in Manchester she was hooked.

That reminds me, why did the podiatrist want to change careers?

Because he always felt defeat. Bdm Chhh! Sorry, couldn’t resist.

As a HCPC Registered Podiatrist / Chiropodist Lucy has 25 years experience of footcare.  Working in both the NHS and running Richardson Podiatry, Lucy absolutely loves her work. That comes across in abundance when you meet her.

Every day is different

“The best part of my job is that no two days are the same.” said Lucy.  “I can be in Darlington one day, Redcar the next and I love making people feel better”

Got Toes? You’re in!

“We have clients of all ages. From children with verrucas to our oldest patient who is an impressive 106 years old! If you’ve got toes, we’d love to meet you, the more hard skin the better!”

Prevention is better than cure

‘We treat common issues such as ingrown toenails, corns and hard skin.  Nail care and cutting are other popular services. Additionally, we also offer diabetic foot screening and can even test circulation. This is to monitor and look for changes so we can prevent things occurring or getting worse.”

Little team, big hearts

The Richardson Podiatry team is made up of Lucy, Karen and Deborah who all really enjoy meeting their clients and hearing all about their life stories. Lucy said “I’ve seen many unusual things and have heard many fascinating stories from my clients over the years. There’s probably a book in me somewhere!”

The move to the Terry Dicken Business Park

“We have a regular clinic in Darlington and visit many clients in their own home around the region. We had been looking for premises for an additional clinic for a while but the pandemic forced us to find somewhere quickly. By complete accident we found the park and are so glad we did as the location and facilities are perfect for us. There is ample parking space, no parking charges and no difficult footpaths to traverse. As many of our clients have mobility issues being able to park literally at the front door is a real bonus.”

With NHS waiting lists being elongated by the pandemic, Lucy and her team can help plug the gap until your next NHS appointment. No need to buy bigger shoes if you can’t reach your toenails, Lucy is now running a clinic in Stokesley on Thursdays and Fridays.

You can find Richardson Podiatry at Office 1, Unit 14 Roseberry Court, Terry Dicken Business Park, Ellerbeck Way, Stokesley TS9 5QT
