Mulberry Blinds

First impressions? WOW, what a lovely showroom, nothing like your average showroom. I sensed a great deal of class and elegance when I entered. I met with Janine, who has helped, with her husband Andy, carry on her parents legacy of Apollo blinds. But we’ll let Janine talk a little more about that later… I also must mention here a great example of ‘it’s a small world’ Janine, actually grew up around the corner from where I grew up and when chatting we talked about our neighbours (nicely, obviously) and life on our cul-del-sac, it is a small world!

Mulberry Blinds supply and installs window dressings for both commercial and domestic use. In particular, they work with a lot of schools, colleges and offices. As well, of course, homes across the whole of the UK. They have an extensive range of blind types, beyond the known Rollers, Verticals & Venetians, there are exciting alternatives such as Twists, Silhouettes, Panels & Facettes.

Apollo takes off

“When I was 5 years old my parents Bill and Isobel, moved to Stokesley and started a business supplying and installing blinds called Apollo Blinds. My parents had 3 shops, Middlesbrough, Darlington and Stokesley where they also manufactured their blinds. They eventually pulled out of the town centres due to high rent and rates and by the time my husband and I joined the company in 2001, they ran the company from their Showroom and Factory in Stokesley on the Terry Dicken Estate”.

Independence day

“My husband Andy and I picked up the business when mum and dad retired. The business traded under the name Apollo Blinds until 2010 when the family decided it was time for a change and we left the franchise group. This saw the start of our new and exciting transformation to Mulberry Blinds, an independent store”.

Great Expectations

“I believe Apollo blinds were one of the first to take a unit here on the Terry Dicken Business Park. My mum and dad loved the whole offering by Terry, especially the location”.

Bringing down the house

“We have recently seen a rise in home automation such as remote control and integrated systems like Alexa and Google Home, it is a really exciting time in the industry”.

The Fantastic Four

“Our team is small but diverse and flexible, we all chip in and help each other out. Alison has been with the business for 6 years and is the glue that sticks us all together and Craig our installer has been with us for 14 years”.

Design and thinking

“We have a large award-winning showroom. You can look through our books and see our displays at your leisure with a cuppa. The team are also on hand to help you with your requirements. We have a great variety of blinds, colours, designs and patterns for you to see. We’re open Monday to Saturday too”.
