Terry Dicken Business Park Feature Friday

Pearsons TV & Appliances

Established in 1978, Pearsons TV & Appliances is a family-run business that has built a strong reputation for quality, value and service in Stokesley. Based at Terry Dicken Business Park, they continue to evolve without losing the personal touch they’re known for.

We first met Pearsons back in 2019, shortly after they moved to the park. At the time, they were expanding into kitchen appliances, working with local joiners and growing their range of integrated appliances. Then, as demand increased, they moved into larger premises in 2021 to create more space for both products and customers.

So, what’s changed since then?

A smarter way to stay competitive

Today, the business looks quite different. As Mark explains:

“Originally we were known for TV and electrical appliances. Now over 80% of our trade is kitchen appliances and the remaining is TV’s. The majority of people come to us for anything from a single appliance to a full set of kitchen appliance replacements.”

However, the biggest shift has come behind the scenes. Thanks to their partnership with Euronics, Pearsons now uses advanced pricing technology to stay competitive in a fast-moving market.

“We are super competitive thanks to an algorithm that monitors and updates our retail prices. That means prices can fluctuate weekly – sometimes even daily – so we can match or beat the big five retailers.”

As a result, Pearsons consistently offers pricing that rivals national names like Currys and John Lewis – often beating them.

Clear pricing, real value

Importantly, it’s not just about headline prices. It’s about transparency too.

“On a like-for-like basis, we’re usually around £50 cheaper. We keep our delivery and installation pricing simple, whereas competitors often add multiple extra charges for things like removal of packaging or old appliances. That’s on top of delivery and install fees. It can get confusing for customers.”

While this dynamic pricing model means they don’t always hold large volumes of stock, they’ve adapted quickly. With new investment in distribution, deliveries now arrive multiple times a week. Keeping things moving efficiently.

Evolving, but staying local

At the same time, Pearsons continues to invest in what matters most: people. Mark has introduced a refreshed team, bringing in experience from sectors such as customer service, education and logistics.

“As well as a brand refresh later this year, our internal systems and processes are getting a facelift,” said Mark. “We’re integrating our systems and now have more experienced people bringing in new procedures from other industries to create a well-oiled machine!”

The updated team and improved systems allow Pearsons to operate more efficiently while maintaining the personal service their customers value.

Meanwhile, after launching a separate venture in Great Ayton, Mark is now back full-time: focused on driving the business forward and building on its loyal customer base.

“The majority of our customers are repeat customers, said Mark. “They trust us. If something needs replacing, they know one phone call gets them a quality product that works. That matters to us just as much as it does to them.”

That trust is built on carefully chosen products too.

“We stick with reliable brands like Bosch and Neff. Ultimately, we want to deliver the best value, especially in a challenging climate. Which means constantly adapting.”

Tradition meets technology

Over the years, the business has seen huge change – and embraced it.

Mark explains, “There have been massive changes in the industry over the last 23 years, but we’ve actually doubled the business since my dad had it. We’re always learning – becoming more efficient and using new technology, including AI, to stay competitive.”

And yet, despite all the innovation, the heart of the business remains the same.

“We think we’ve got the balance right. People expect things instantly now, but they still want to come in and have a chat. That’s what makes us stand out. Mixing traditional retail values with clever technology.”

“And of course, we’ve got our secret weapon – Grace – who never stops talking! Customers love her.”

Part of the park community

Being based at Terry Dicken Business Park has also played a big part in that journey.

“We absolutely love being here,” Mark exclaimed. “It’s grown so much, and there’s a real sense of community here. People look out for each other. There are so many great businesses here too. I use Mimi’s Embroidery, Lucy Richardson Podiatry, Agriplus, Direct Business Supplies and Rooms, to name just a few. I’m also in TK’s Café far too often! To top it all off, the landlords, Mark and Sue, have always been incredibly supportive.”

From local services to familiar faces, that community feel continues to support both the business and its customers.

Supporting local businesses

In turn, Pearsons is keen to give back. To encourage local connections, they’re currently offering an exclusive 5% discount to fellow business park tenants and their employees.
