Woodrose Shepherd Huts

Woodrose Shepherd Huts make luxury shepherd huts for holiday rentals, garden rooms and home offices.

We last met Richard in 2021 just after the UK was getting used to life post covid. Back then there was a rise in demand for home offices. Did that continue? Let’s find out from Richard.

Welcoming the new

“Since we last spoke, we’ve been kept really busy with the huts,” said Richard. “We’re still doing the odd home office but we’re finding that most people are going back into the workplace so there’s less demand. However, thankfully for us, people do like to spend time in their garden! Therefore we’re getting requests for luxury shepherd huts and other rooms with a variety of uses. For example, we’ve done a number of small garden pubs and garden party rooms. It’s very common for people to want their own bar or garden kitchen. We’ve built BBQ huts, summer houses and all year round use garden rooms.”

40 years experience

“We really can do anything! As a skilled cabinet maker with over 40 years experience, I can make whatever the customer wants. The space is created for you whether it’s a shepherd hut or an outdoor room and it’s up to you what you do with it. For example, we’ve built a treatment room for a beauty therapist, an art studio for a painter and even a mobile sauna!”

So what can be included in the build?

Turn key project

“The sky’s the limit!” exclaimed Richard. “If your location has access to power then we can install electric central heating. Wood burning stoves are very popular. In addition to being functional they also improve the aesthetic of the space. It’s possible to include en-suite or stand alone bathrooms and fully functional kitchens. The only limit is your imagination! Each structure is a complete turn key project. The only thing we don’t do is soft furnishings. We even supply the mattress. On delivery, we set the whole thing up for you then handover the keys.”

Sounds wonderful. I’m already thinking of where to put one! I wonder how much they cost…

Better up North

“Prices start from £13,000 for a classic 12 ft Yorkshire Hut, said Richard.” “This can rise to £30,000 for a much larger hut with a fitted kitchen, double bed and ensuite bathroom. It all depends on what you want to include. Items such as fitting a wood burning stove, creating a separate shower room and installing solar panels are just some of the optional extras available. There’s no limits to where we deliver either. In fact, we’ve just taken an order from Devon! Our huts are a lot cheaper than those made down south even after the cost of transportation.”

Looks like Woodrose Shepherd Huts are certainly delivering value in Yorkshire!

Protecting your investment

“Huts ideally last around 25 years so are a solid investment, explained Richard. “But to get that length of use, it’s important to make sure they are properly maintained. That’s why we introduced a maintenance service contract. For a small monthly fee, we visit each year to do all the windows and re-paint the structure. By maintaining a protective layer of paint, you prevent moisture and other environmental factors from damaging the underlying materials.”

Loving every minute

“I started out as a skilled cabinet maker and from there started making shepherd huts. 15 years ago there weren’t many people making them. Now there are a number of hut companies out there. Where we differ from the rest is in our skills and expertise. I’ve been in this line of work since I was 16 years old so we fit to a very high standard. My customers recognise this and that’s why the majority of my work comes from recommendation. From the customers idea stage to delivery usually takes about 6 months. We’ve made 52 shepherd huts in the last 15 years and I’ve loved every minute of it!”

Richard certainly loves being here on the Terry Dicken Business Park too as he’s been here for over 30 years!

Original and best

“Alongside Stokesley Architectural Joinery, we’re one of the original businesses to have joined the park”, said Richard. “Mark and Sue are fantastic landlords. They’ll help you however they can. But are also happy to just leave you to get on with it! We work with some of the other businesses here too. HFC created our website and I would absolutely recommend them. Wentworth Security helps our customers when they need additional security for their luxury shepherd huts.”
