Terry Dicken Business Park Feature Friday

Kiwi Events

Kiwi Events are an independent event management company that create unique, unforgettable and affordable events.

I met owner, Courtney Jones, to find out more.

Designed for champions

“Working as a Commercial Account Executive for a championship football club, I had the pleasure to create some unforgettable events for a range of personal and professional clients, a number of which were premier league footballers. This is where the idea for a full event management company first came about. I was constantly running around like a headless chicken dealing with multiple suppliers and getting frustrated with the level of service. Because my clients were always so complimentary about the events and parties that I organised, it made sense to set up my own company.”

So, in 2019 Courtney branched out and established Kiwi Events.

Exceeding expectations

“We’re a full-service event management company so we can organise the whole thing. We do weddings, christenings, birthday parties, engagements and even divorce parties! Whatever the occasion, we can create an event that exceeds expectations. We’re a small team but we’re grafters so we get the job done.”

Perseverance pays

“I initially worked from my garage but as the bookings increased, we needed more room. We were able to find a container to house some of our equipment on the Terry Dicken Business Park. As the business grew and we acquired more stock, it was obvious even more space was needed. I chased Mark nearly every week and was over the moon when he called to say there was a suitable warehouse available. We jumped at the chance to be part of the park.”

The bookings were coming in thick and fast, and Courtney was desperately in need of new venues.

From teepee to you

“We decided to take matters into our own hands, and we invested in teepees and igloos, which we can set up almost anywhere. As there are many benefits to hosting an event at your home, being able to bring the venue to you means our customers can take advantage. Things like transport costs, having to share directions with the guest list and the stress of finding a venue with ample parking are all eradicated.”

Making up for lost time

“Even in these unsettling times, I have received an overwhelming response to Kiwi Events, that I couldn’t be more grateful for. I feel so incredibly lucky to have such wonderful clients who continue to trust and recommend me to create precious memories. This overwhelming response that has seen me take on one of my biggest projects yet, restoring and converting a unique “Rice” Horsebox into a mobile bar! Having the igloos, teepees and now mobile bar, means that we can still give clients their dream event and be much more flexible on location. Our diaries have been filling up thick and fast, full of clients who want to get together and celebrate the events that we were forced to miss during the lockdowns. It’s great we can be a part of that.

I asked Courtney what’s the best thing about her work…

Making memories

“I love being able to help my clients make amazing memories. My ideal client is someone who doesn’t really know what they want. For example, they may have a colour scheme or a theme in mind and a budget but that’s it. That’s when we can really bring value. We recently arranged a bonfire party which we gave a festival theme. The client hadn’t seen any of the preparation. He turned up 15 minutes before the guests arrived and was just blown away.”

Not literally, I assure you ?

“We feel really proud when that trust is put in us and we’re able to exceed expectations.”

To close the interview, I asked Courtney what she likes about the business park.

The friendly business community

“Having premises detaches you from your home & being part of a business community can really help your business. I’ve met companies that compliment ours and as we get to know more people, I can see lots of potential to work together. It’s very friendly here, people want each other to do well.
Although the park is in high demand, Mark is very accommodating and makes sure he keeps you in mind when spaces become available.  It’s also very easy to grow here.”
