Julie Phillips Therapeutic Coaching

Hypnotherapy is a gentle form of therapy that uses the power of suggestion to help reduce stress and anxiety. Julie Phillips Therapeutic Coaching help busy people who feel stuck and overwhelmed quickly clear stress, anxiety, fear and/or trauma.

You might be forgiven for wondering why a hypnotherapist would set up office in a business park however, Clinical Hypnotherapist Julie Phillips did just that. We caught up with her to find out if we could maintain eye contact without going into a trance!

Wake up call

In her previous role, Julie worked as an English teacher and Head of Department, she explained;

“I was not great at self care back then and I had no idea how to support my own wellbeing. Unfortunately, I suffered from ‘burn out’ and had to take some time off work to recover.”

This was the wake- up call Julie needed and she decided she had to focus on overall health & wellbeing.

“I knew I wanted something that would help me find solutions to my work life balance. I explored different therapeutic approaches including NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and hypnotherapy, which was amazing; it felt like the clouds had lifted, finally, the stress had gone. As if someone had pressed the ‘factory re-set button’ on my brain.”

Time for change

She explains what made her decide to retrain as a therapist in 2013.

“I knew I needed to change. I learned about stress and the impact upon mind and body, I felt it was important to share with others how they too could reduce stress and anxiety or deal with trauma quickly and effectively. You know, sometimes it’s hard to ask for help, especially as a professional. We often feel that we should have our lives sorted but the truth is, we sometimes need a space just to work things out. The most interesting thing that I notice in many of my clients is how they put themselves last on the list – they are often so busy trying to make sure everyone else is ok, they forget about their own needs.”

A safe space

“Clients are often curious at first about how hypnotherapy works – there are often jokes about chickens which is funny (I tell them I charge extra for turning them into a chicken!). In reality, it’s a safe space where clients can explore their emotions and concerns about aspects of their lives that need to change. I use hypnotherapy to connect with their unconscious mind in a relaxed state – this means that change work is effective because it happens calmly and without stress.”

Gods own country

There’s nothing like a beautiful landscape and unspoilt countryside to help reduce stress levels. Julie explained;

“I was born in the North Riding of Yorkshire and I remain a down to earth ‘Yorkshire lass’, I love walking in nature with my family and my dogs so it made sense to me to situate my therapy room in Yorkshire too. Initially, I had an office in Guisborough which was lovely but I started to do a lot more work with businesses and business people. I understand what it’s like to run a business and the time pressures – having an accessible therapy room with free parking was important – you don’t want to be worried about getting a ticket when your deep in hypnosis!“

Part of a community

So what is it that Julie likes about being a tenant here on the park?

“Being a sole worker without a team can feel lonely however, being on the park means I am connected to other business owners too – I often chat to other professionals in the kitchen area or when arriving on a morning. It’s a feeling of being part of something that I like – a business minded community.“

Julie enjoys working with a range of people from teens to entrepreneurs. Visit the website to find out more.
