Terry Dicken Business Park Feature Friday

Titan Property Services

Energy saving experts, Titan Property Services enhance the energy performance of homes and commercial buildings across the UK.

I met with owner, Jonathan Mudd to find out more.

Heating Heroes

For over 15 years, Jonathan and his team of installers have been helping families and businesses throughout the region to stay warm and stay healthy.

In 2018, over 2.40 million households in England were classed as fuel poor. This means an above average amount has to be spent on fuel costs and this can be due to reliance on inefficient heating systems and rising energy costs.

Poorly heated houses can create damp and mould which can cause health issues for the elderly, vulnerable and families with young children.

Here come the Titans

By no co-incidence 2018 was also the year that Titan Property Services was established.

Titan serve both domestic & commercial customers with loft and cavity wall installations, install heating and boilers and also offer repairs and call outs. The team of 6 installers are trained to industry standard and are all gas safe registered.

Fast forward to 2021 and Jonathan’s team of 10 are bringing the warmth and comfort back to homes across the TS, DH, and DL postcodes. But sadly, fuel poverty is still on the rise.

The science

Boilers often last more than 15 years but as they get older they have to work harder to heat your home and water so you could be spending more on heating bills to get the same result.

Installing loft or cavity wall insulation helps not only to reduce your heating bills by saving energy lost through the walls, it’s also better for the environment. Which brings me nicely onto the money saving bit ?

The money saving bit

In an effort to reduce fuel poverty, the government have created grant schemes to help homeowners pay for certain energy-efficient home improvements & energy-saving renovations.

The GHVS grant

Jonathan said;

“There’s over £320 million available to help cover the cost of loft/cavity wall installation and solar power on a first come first served basis. For some, this will mean being granted up to a third of the cost, for others in receipt of certain benefits, the cost might be fully funded.”*

The ECO – Energy Company Obligation grant

“Help to cover new cavity wall installation and heating can be found with this scheme. This one’s a little bit more complicated, so let me give you a scenario. A semi-detached homeowner who has a broken boiler and existing cavity wall installation that didn’t cover the party wall may be able to get a grant to cover both the party wall insulation AND a new boiler. “*

Here to help

“As with any government grant scheme there are restrictions. So we talk to the customer over the phone first to ensure that the basic criteria is met. Once that’s confirmed, we’ll make an appointment to visit the home and complete a survey. This takes around 20-30 minutes. From there, we complete our report which the customer can then use when they apply for the grant on the government website.”

Feeling the benefit

I asked Jonathan what was the most rewarding thing about his job. He said;

“Getting feedback from customers saying the team have done a good job. It’s great to know that we are making a difference. We all feel the benefit when we hear that sort of feedback.”

The perfect choice

To wrap up the interview I asked what brought Jonathan to the business park.

“I used to work in Middlesborough and wanted to find a place closer to home. The Terry Dicken Business Park was the perfect choice as it’s so convenient.

It’s a lovely, clean and tidy place with no issues security wise. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, especially the landlords.”

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’ve learned so much from this one!

I’m off to check when my cavity wall insulation was installed and check what material was used. I’m liking the sound of this new fandangled polybead stuff ?
