Platinum Motors & Tyres
Platinum Motors & Tyres is a well-established MOT test centre, tyre supplier and fitting centre based on the Terry Dicken Business Park. They offer services for cars, vans and all class 4 and 7 vehicles. They also offer wheel balancing, alignment and tyre repair.
They recently launched their brand new mobile tyre service which is brought directly to your door but more on that later…
In the beginning
Back to 2006 owner Darren Wilcox and his father started Platinum Tyres from a small unit on the park. The business quickly took off and just a year later Darren was approached by a business neighbour with an offer to buy them out.
Darren jumped at the chance to acquire an established motor company already on the park and for the next two years they successfully operated both businesses as separate entities.
Two become one
The success of the two businesses created the need for expansion and it was at this point that Darren decided a merger was necessary and Platinum Motors and Tyres was born!
We are family
The next few years saw much growth. Word of mouth encouraged more local customers and the team at Platinum literally became an extended family!
Now a 12 strong team, Darren’s partner and his two sons also work in the business. Following solidly in his fathers footsteps, Bradley now runs the tyre division whilst Callum is a mechanic.
There are no traffic jams along the extra mile
Great service is at the heart of everything Platinum do and the extensive, local customer base is testament to this core value. Whether it’s trying to squeeze you in for an MOT to suit your busy schedule or getting you the best possible price for a set of run flats, Platinum are the folks to go to (and I speak from experience here!).
Covid changes the game
We did well didn’t we? Almost 2 minutes without mentioning the dreaded C word. Like most businesses, Platinum were effected by the pandemic but thankfully this story has a happy ending for customers and Darren and his team.
Being a business that is able to trade during national lockdowns, as you would expect the first stop was a massive investment in PPE. Face masks and hand sanitiser are available in abundance and protective screens have been installed in all customer facing areas.
In addition, a new temporary customer waiting area was installed to allow customers the ability to wait in safety and comfort.
Platinum2U
Even with all of this in place, Darren recognised that some customers would still be facing restrictions and unable to come to the premises, so the team moved quickly and launched a new mobile tyre service – Platinum2U.
The Platinum2U mobile tyre service brings the whole offer right to your door. Whether that’s a tyre repair at home, a new set fitted in your office car park, or even a broken down dumper tyre repair on a farm track – Platinum have got you covered!
The success of this arm of the business has lead to Platinum becoming an RAC approved service so you might just find them being your knights in shining armour one day too.
Live like a local
To wrap up the interview I asked what life was like for them on the Terry Dicken Business Park. They said…
“We really like it here. It doesn’t feel industrial at all, in fact it feels very local. We like to support the other businesses and buy local and it’s very easy to do that here. All our office needs are covered by Direct Business Supplies and our computers are looked after by HFC Systems. Of course, we all love a trip to TK’s Cafe”
