Terry Dicken Business Park Feature Friday

Fibre- Lyte

Fibre-Lyte. I’ll be the first one to admit that if anything sounds scientific my mind gets boggled quickly. Anybody else? I am just no Einstein but I wish I was. Anyways, Fibre-Lyte is a business here on the Terry Dicken Business Park that has been here from the beginning. I met with Stephen and John, now owners of Fibre-Lyte in their pretty large, dusty, loud unit. Nothing wrong with that it’s a sign of graft and hard work, I like it.

From early beginnings when the company was formed in January 1992 by Martin Hansell (who has since retired) the company has developed into being one of the most well known carbon fibre manufacturers in the UK. Fibre-Lyte specialises in the production and machining of carbon fibre composite products and machining of wood and plastic materials.

Now for the geeky bit, much like Superman, carbon fibre is five-times stronger than steel and twice as stiff. Though carbon fibre is stronger and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel; and can be thinner than a human hair. WHO KNEW?!

Fibre-Lyte also produces this amazing carbon-fibre stuff for bicycle, motorsport and motorcycle parts. Now, I don’t know my Ducati from my Yamaha but my team here (who are huge MotoGP fans) get all excited at the mention of such stuff so I do know that the parts that Stephen and John produce are crucial.

I asked them both about life on the park….

Looked after

“We love being on the Terry Dicken Business Park as everyone looks after each other and it is nicely informal. The rents are good and it is just a lovely place to work”.

Word of mouth

“We get a lot of business from referrals. We do a good job and people pass our names on. We pride ourselves on great customer service, excellent prices, top quality products and the personal touch that Hansell Composites and Fibre-Lyte is renowned for”.

Carbon Fibre Sheets

“All our materials are laminated in-house using various methods of manufacture including a wet layup and resin infusion. As everything is laminated in-house this allows us to control the processes and also laminate materials to specific customer requirements of all shapes and sizes”.

Good old Terry

“We’re grateful for Terry’s help in our early days. We went from a small 500 sq ft building to a large 2500 sq ft unit. He was generous and helped us with our move”.

Sporting

“We’re proud to have worked with many sporting industries and athletes alike such as supporting the GB cycling team in the Rio Olympics , British superbikes, the race across America and motorsports”.

Keeping on theme, I asked the lads, If you had one superpower, what would it be and why?

Both John and Stephen said ‘flying’ because of the freedom, the nice bit of breeze and because everyone dreams about it.
